Complicit: The Roosevelt Administrations Inadequate Response to the Refugee Crisis
The documentary, "Complicit: The Untold Story of Why the Roosevelt Administration Denied Safe Haven to Refugees" will be shown in its entirety (66 minutes in length). The film explores the refusal of Cuba, the U.S. and Canada to grant safe haven to Jewish refugees on board the SS St. Louis in 1939. The film features interviews with refugees onboard the ill-fated ship, puts FDR "on trial" for his involvement, and shows never-before-seen footage of a U.S. Special Envoys expose of America's inadequate response to the crisis.
Filmmaker Ruth Kalish, who co-produced and co-directed the film will be at the event for a post screening discussion and Q&A. In addition, Jane Ginns, who is on the Board of Directors of HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society), will speak about America's current refugee policies and related immigration issues.
