Celebrate 10 years of Food Backpacks 4 Kids!
We will have live music by Bob Wickline, appetizers and drinks.
A silent auction and raffle will help us raise funds to continuing feeding nearly 400 families in our community each week.
Founded in 2009 by a small group of volunteers on the Key Peninsula, Food Backpacks 4 Kids in its first year provided backpacks each week to the 9 neediest children at Evergreen Elementary. Fast forward just 7 years, and we now distribute more than 400 weekly backpacks to children from every school in the Peninsula School District. Each backpack contains between 5 and 8 pounds of nutritious food, structured to provide enough supplemental food to feed a family of four for the weekend. That's more than 3,000 pounds of food distributed each week.
Our goal is to make sure that hunger doesn't keep any child from learning. Nationwide studies show that a hungry child is a distracted child, unable to learn, and often disruptive in the classroom. We want to make sure that every child arrives at school on Monday morning having had enough to eat all weekend.
