NADSA Conference 2019 in Batimore
Coppin State University will host the 83rd Annual Conference of the National Association of Dramatic and Speech Arts (NADSA) at the Radisson Hotel in Baltimore's Inner Harbor.
Conference dates are April 3-6, 2019.
NADSA is an association of over 300 students, faculty, staff and other arts/entertainment professionals from historically black colleges and universities across the nation. Founded in 1936, it exists today as the nations oldest surviving educational theatre association.
NADSA convenes a 4-day gathering each year, held in March or April, The Conference holds a series of workshops, competitions, performances, and panels.
Theatre and Speech communication enthusiasts attend NADSA as an opportunity to network, build skill sets, and share best practices of the arts/entertainment industry.

1. The Guest Performance North Carolina Central University's Department of Theatre will present its production of BLOOD AT THE ROOT, written by Dominique Morriseau and directed by Asabi.

2. The Workshops
NADSA Conference 2019 will convene the following workshops:
Workshop #1: Making People Work---Storytelling Presenter: Lawrence Blackwell
This workshop will demonstrate several methods of mining black history to create performance pieces that teach and make profit.

Workshop #2: Improvisation Presenter: Nicoye Banks, featured star of the Queen Sugar TV Series on OWN
This workshop will change the way you see people and how they interact with one another.

Workshop #3: Introduction to Black Theatre Commons Presenter: David Mitchell, Program Director, Black Theatre Commons
In this workshop, participants will discuss strategies for archiving their organizations history.

Workshop #4: Did You Get the Text? Role Scoring Your Character Presenter: Willie O. Jordan, Director of Theatre at Coppin State University in Baltimore
Role scoring your character and the play itself is essential to understanding the job of the actor. The purpose of this workshop is to arm participants with the basic tools on how to ask the right questions, find the right verb to connect the text and justify the theatrical journey.

Workshop #5: A History of Black Stand-up Comedy Presenter: Mr. Andy Evans, a.k.a the Comedy Counselor, Stand-up Comic, Comedy Club Owner and Author of the book, (R)EVOLUTIONARY IMPROV.
In this workshop we will look back at the comedy pioneers of the "artform" a Question-and-Answer session as well as a live demonstration by the Comedy Counselor.

Workshop #6: Dont Shuffle Along--Movement for the Actor Presenter: Kibibi Ajanku, Founding Director of Sankofa Dance Theater in Baltimore
Competent stage presence is as crucial as a component of good actor training. Movement for the Actor will explore movement techniques that every actor should know and study. Cost: All workshops are $20.00 each

B. Oral Interpretation of Poetry RH International Room A 1:00-3:00 p.m.
C. Reader's Theatre Competition RH International Room A 3:30-5:30 p.m.
D. Duo Acting Competition RH International Room A 7:30-9:30 p.m.
Friday, April 5th Persuasive Speaking Competition RH Room International A 9:30 - 11:00 a.m.
The cost to attend any of the competitions is $10.00 each.

4. The Allen Williams Play Festival, featuring six one-act plays by competing HBCUs.

The cost to attend othe six play festival is $5.00 for students, $10.00 for adults.
