Ever want to learn how to grow beautiful fruit trees in a small space? The term "espalier" refers to the way fruit trees are trained to grow against a wall, trellis, railing, or other support. This makes the tree easier to prune and the fruit easier to pick. And it looks beautiful! This decorative method was often used in traditional walled kitchen gardens and suits growing fruit in smaller gardens.
At this July 23 Learn & Serve workshopSteve Hiestand of Pruning Pro will discuss appropriate tree selection and demonstrate how to get started training young fruit trees. The talk will also cover how to prune for health and fruit bearing spurs. The class is from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
After the talk we will do a little maintenance in the demonstration gardens. There will be time to ask questions, and Master Gardeners will be on hand to assist. Dress appropriately for the weather.
No tools are necessary, but you may want your own gloves if you use them.
This workshop is put on in conjunction with Clark County Environmental Services.
