Jean Ramirez: A Night of Songs from the Great American Songbook and the Bossa Nova Songbook
West coast based vocalist, Jean Ramirez, joins New York City musicians David Ambrosio on bass, Leonard Thompson on piano, and Russ Meissner on drums for an evening of celebrating the Great American Songbook and the Bossa Nova Songbook. The quartet will be swinging the timeless and elegant songs crafted by greats such as Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Richard Rodgers, George Gershwin, and many more. As a counterpart to the Great American Songbook, well-loved and gorgeous Bossa Novas, which translates to "New Wave" as a lyrical fusion of samba and jazz, by Brazilian composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Baden Powell, and Joao Gilberto will also be presented by the quartet.

Jean Ramirez, a San Francisco based vocalist and songwriter, interprets jazz standards, the Great American Songbook, Bossa Novas, World Music, and beyond. Her music is reflection of her own explorations of different music, cultures, landscapes, ideas, and inspirations. Drawing from an eclectic array of musical muses and heroes from Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Patty Waters, Norma Winstone, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Bud Powell, Bill Evans, Hank Monk Mobley, Luciana Souza, Fado, to Stevie Wonder, through her voice and collaborations, Jean seeks to explore her own interpretation and musical sensibilities.
David Ambrosio is one of New York City's finest freelance musician and educator for the past 20 years. He is the co-leader of two collaborative band, Grupo Los Santo and 40Twenty as well as part of many groups including George Schuller's Circle Wide, the Matt Renzi Trio, and the BMI/New York Jazz Orchestra led by Jim McNeely.

Leonard Thompson as a New York City based pianist has recorded or performed with Donald Bailey, Jamie Baum, Vicki Burns, Madeleine Eastman, Eddie Marshall, Cleo Laine, Matt Otto, Patty Waters, and many more.

Russ Meissner is a vital part of the New York music scene as a drummer and composer. He co-leads a group with bassist David Ambrosio and he is part of several projects including the Sean Smith Quartet, the Matt Renzi Trio, and the Jim Campilongo and Honeyfingers.

"...are gifted improvisers with big ears; a refreshing alternative to hyper-particular constructive ideals that are pervasive in jazz today." - Dan Bilawsky, All About Jazz
