Wild Food Exploration and Cooking Demonstration
Join Langdon Cook, renowned writer and instructor on wild foods, as he shares stories about the natural history and edibility of wild plants. This exciting event consists of two activities in two different locations:

1.Edible Plant Exploration - THE EXPLORATION IS SOLD OUT

When: Tuesday April 16th, 3:30-5:00pm

Location: Keta Legacy Foundations Rhododendron Preserve, 2401 Seabeck Highway, Bremerton

Description: Explore the plant life that thrives in the springtime among giant old growth trees. Langdon Cook will lead an educational walk to share an in-depth view of life on the forest floor. Participants on this walk will learn how to identify wild plants and how these plants can be used for culinary purposes.

*Note that no plants will be foraged on-site, as collection is not allowed in this preserve

2.Cooking Demonstration

When: Tuesday April 16th, 5:00-7:00pm

Location: Olympic Colleges Bremer Student Center kitchen, 1600 Chester Ave, Bremerton

Description: Join Olympic Colleges Chef Chris Plemmons and Langdon Cook as they transform wild foraged foods into delicious culinary creations. All participants will have the opportunity to help prepare and consume a light dinner with foraged ingredients and will bring h ome a jar of freshly pickled fiddleheads.

Tickets:

Two types of tickets are available for this event. Participants can choose to participate in both the plant exploration and the cooking demonstration, or just the cooking demonstration.

Combination Tickets: Plant exploration + cooking demonstration: $40

Cooking Demonstration only: $30

His books include Upstream: Searching for Wild Salmon, from River to Table (Ballantine, May 2017), a finalist for the Washington State Book Award, The Mushroom Hunters: On the Trail of an Underground America, winner of the 2014 Pacific Northwest Book Award, and Fat of the Land: Adventures of a 21st Century Forager, which The Seattle Times called lyrical, practical and quixotic. Cooks writing has been nominated for a James Beard Award (2016) and a Pushcart Prize. He has been profiled in Bon Appetit, WSJ magazine, Whole Living, and Salon.com, and his writing appears in numerous magazines, newspapers, and online journals, including Terrain, Grays Sporting Journal, Eating Well, Outside, The Stranger, and Seattle Magazine, where hes a regular columnist. On-screen credits include the PBS TV series Food Forward, the Travel Channels Trip Flip, and the webcast The Perennial Plate. He has also been the recipient of grants and awards from Artist Trust, 4Culture, PEN Northwest, and the Bread Loaf Writing Conference. A graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont (BA) and the University of Washington (MFA), Cook lives in Seattle with his wife, poet Martha Silano, and their two children.
