Winner of the Palme d'Or at the 71st Cannes International Film Festival and Academy Award® Nominee for Best Foreign Language Film. Director Kore-eda's latest film, Shoplifters, is about a desperate family making their ends meet: a day-laborer father Osamu Shibata (Lily Franky) and his son Shota (Jyo Kairi) shoplifting with brilliant teamwork. One day, on their way home, they find a girl shivering in the cold on the first floor of an apartment and they end up taking her home. The Shibata family had been managing their unique way of life, but then a certain incident exposes the family's secrets. This was the last film Director Kore-eda worked on with his favorite veteran actor, Kirin Kiki, who passed away 4 months after the film won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes in 2018.
