Tonight you will hear music that dances between raindrops, sending up green shoots between the broken cobblestones of folk tales, storytelling, mythology and open revolt. It is a soundtrack to broken rules and mutant genres, evoking a world that skips over the Age of Oil and all its cruelties, stitching together a patchwork of past and future, a do-it-yourself apocalypse that is strangely utopian. Beautiful lyrics and singing accompanied by 6 string classical guitars, loop stations, effects pedals, piano, cello and a very unique percussion set up.
Holly Brewer has been singing since she was 2 and remembers getting her hands on piano in the family barn, at age 5. Brewer started playing piano regularly and writing songs at the age of 10 and by the age of 16 she held her first guitar. Playing basement shows, street corners and house parties during the late 90's Brewer started making the connection between making music and earning a living from it. Brewer met Matthew McNiss and began to forge a life long musical partnership while taking Brewer's old songs and together writing new ones for a band they would called Veil which later changed their name to HUMANWINE, an anagram for Humans Underground Making Anagrams Nightly While Imperialistic Not-Me's Enslave. HUMANWINE covers songs that take place in their fictional land, Vinland where a slave race called Cogs are used and then discarded by the Not-Me Party and fed to the Enjoyeurs to keep them quiet about the whole matter. The whole album, For Burning Cities Present covers the first chapter and their second release, Fighting Naked, both Released on their own Record label Nervous Relatives Records (NRR), covers the second chapter in a long tale. Once HUMANWINE moved to Boston, MA the awards and accolades started piling up and in 2001 Brewer was part of a BBC Docu-Series as well as a CBC Documentary which showcased her talents as a singer - This caught the ear of Jac Holzman, the creator of Elektra Records (Janis Joplin, The Doors). Holzman Reached out to Brewer about possibly signing a deal with WMG.
In 2002 Holly Brewer and Matthew McNiss' band HUMANWINE, signed with Warner Music Group while keeping all the rights to their songs under their own label, NRR but the mainstream wasn't working artistically for the group and in 2007 Brewer and McNiss set out on their own to get back to the basics of campfires and home cooking taking a long hiatus from any recording or touring while living in a vegetabl oil powered giant black schoolbus. In 2010 HUMANWINE Released Mass Exodus on NRR and toured minimally to support it. During 2012 Holly Brewer wrote a song cycle and recorded it under the name The Folks Below releasing it on NRR as a self titled debut and toured on it. In May of 2016 HUMANWINE released æther, a 40 song Mega-Album with a 60 page full colour ArtBook Album Companion called c0dex on NRR once again. In July of 2017 Brewer released her single, Flesh Shapes under the name Crow Calls Fox on NRR. Brewer is currently writing and recording another album to be released on NRR in 2019.
Award winning Vocalist and Songwriter, Holly Brewer has performed in 42 of 50 United States as well as Cuba, Iraq, Italy and Greece touring heavily with her bands The Folks Below, Crow Calls Fox and HUMANWINE.
This is her last show before heading off to perform in South Africa late April and Early May of 2019 with Matthew McNiss, Jade Barbee and Love for The Dung Beetle Project which is a machine that turns plastic (bottles, containers) into electricity and liquid fuel for running stages. for more on The Dung Beetle Project visit https://dungbeetle.africa
