Bismarck Model Acquistion Reception

To celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the German battleship Bismarck's commissioning, the public is invited to view the recently acquired eight-foot long model and enjoy a lively historical presentation by Professors David Bosse and Thomas Hoff.
Edmund Lindhardt, a long time member of several German American organizations and a carpenter by trade, meticulously constructed the models by hand.  While beautiful to behold, the Bismarck model is also a fully operational, sea worthy vessel; its maiden voyage made at Lake Park in Des Plaines.
Attendees will enjoy 360 degree viewing access of the Bismarck. Also on display will be the Preußen model, the only five-masted full-rigged ship ever built until the year 2000 and the partially constructed model of the Prinz Eugen, the Bismarck's heavy cruiser escort during Operation Rheinübung.
The permanent collection of the DANK Haus German American Cultural Center serves as an educational resource for the preservation of German American culture for the general public.  The public is highly encouraged to attend this evening, as the models will be returned to archival storage until long-term exhibit space for these treasures becomes available.

Donations towards the conservation of the permanent collection are welcome.
DANK Haus German American Cultural Center is a registered 501(c) 3, donations are fully tax deductible.

The Center is located  block from the Western Brown Line stop.
Parking for this event is generously provided by MB Financial Bank at Western and Gunnison Avenues.
