Événement
Robert Schwartz, pianist
Pianist Robert Schwartz performs Franz Liszt's monumental B minor piano sonata (1854) and Joseph Hadyn's sonata in E-flat major, Hob. XVI/49 (1790).
Is the Liszt sonata a portrait of the Faust legend? Is it autobiographical (Liszt's shifting moods)? Is it the divine and the diabolical? Is it the Garden of Eden and the Fall of Man? Is it simply a piano piece? Make up your own mind.
Watch pianist Schwartz go ahead and cross his hands in the Adagio of the Hadyn sonata, just where the pianist to whom it is dedicated, Maria Anna von Genzinger, begged Haydn to simplify it.
Robert Schwartz performs and teaches around the world (Beijing, Vienna, Albignac [France], Chautauqua [NY], Portland [OR]) and throughout northern California the Mendocino Music Festival, Oaklands Dewing Recitals, San Joses Steinway Society, and in San Francisco at Noontime Concerts and at Old First Concerts where he has recorded the complete Iberia by Isaac Albéniz.
