GONE WITH THE WIND (1939) CLASSIC AMERICAN EPIC FILM AT THE HISTORIC NEW TROJAN MOVIE HOUSE & ART CINEMA | ONE NIGHT ONLY! | LONGMONT, CO
Gone with the Wind is a 1939 American epic historical romance film, set in the American South against the backdrop of the American Civil War and the Reconstruction era. The film tells the story of Scarlett O'Hara, the strong-willed daughter of a Georgia plantation owner. It follows her romantic pursuit of Ashley Wilkes, who is married to his cousin, Melanie Hamilton, and her subsequent marriage to Rhett Butler. The leading roles are played by Vivien Leigh (Scarlett), Clark Gable (Rhett), Leslie Howard (Ashley), and Olivia de Havilland (Melanie.
Though the movie remains a classic, modern audiences have received it with mixed views due to its representation of black people and its references and depictions of southern slavery pre civil war era. The New Trojan Movie House and Art Cinema selects this film for its significance in cinema history as the first movie made entirely in color. In 1939, "The Wizard of Oz" was only made partially in color, and was released a couple months before "Gone with the Wind" which was the first picture to win a cinematography award in color.
