Twangville (www.twangville.com) began humbly as a place to post playlists for our friends. It wasn't long before we expanded to feature reviews of new releases plus downloads, videos and more.  In search of twang, we typically look beyond traditional and mainstream country into genres like americana, alt-country, indie, rock, folk and blues.

Twangville.  Because spoon-fed music sucks and twang is cheaper than therapy.  Est. 2005.

The Twangville Posse  They've got writers across the United States  like to get together from time to time to, well, talk music. This year they're gathering near Boston and you're invited to the party!

Twangville will be taking over the Lizard Lounge on June 28th and 29th for an incredible weekend of music. How's this for a killer line-up:

SARAH BORGES (full band), STEPHEN KELLOGG and JOE FLETCHER

Borges has agreed to performance at the second annual Twangville Presents Festival (June 29-30, Boston, MA). Which is lucky for us, because, like most musicians, she is a force to behold in front of a live audience. Don't believe me? Just check below for a free download of "Diablito" from Borges's Live Singles. The band crackles and pops as Borges channels Janis Joplin and Joan Jett. She seems capable of lifting the club off its foundations with her voice alone.

Stephen Kellogg's new album "Blunderstone Rookery" is being released at turning point in his career and life. Within the last year he has lost his Grandmother and Mother-in-law. In addition, his band (Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers) has decided to take a break. It is fitting that the album takes its name from a character in "David Copperfield". So much happened to Stephen Kellogg in the last year, that I would imagine his life feels a bit like a Dickens novel. This comparison can even be taken a step further. Dickens typically used difficult circumstances and adversity as his backdrop to bring light to realities that society ignored. However, it was his characters perseverance and the author's witty sarcasm that made the stories compelling. So it is with Stephen Kellogg, Instead of an album of dark mourning and songs of pain, "Blunderstone Rookery", presents an artist that is moving forward with wit and wisdom in tow.

It's still not certain if Joe is going to have his whole band, the Wrong Reasons, or if he'll be in singer-songwriter mode, but either way is a treat.  If the whole band is there, it's going to be a party.  It won't be more than a song or two before you have one fist wrapped around a longneck and the other punching the air to the chorus.  Many of Joe's songs start out kind of laid back and contemplative, but start building and flowing and barging their way into every corner of the room until they create that Dylan anthemic quality with its universal appeal.  Check out Drunk & Single or Flat Tire, on his latest album, White Lighter, to hear how he builds the crescendo.

If Fletcher is there solo and acoustic, well, that's a party, too.  In that case it's more like the old roommate who has all the best stories, except now they're set to music.  Think Hayes Carll or Corb Lund.  The music is a little more bluesy, and boozy, and grabs you more by the belt loops than the armpits.  Listen to Front Porch or Too Many Doors, on White Lighter, for a sense of those.
