---

The Saffron Parade Arabesque Band was founded by violinist Timothy Maloof and consists of a core group of musicians who bring elements of different music styles to the group, including traditional classical Arabic music and jazz. The ensemble includes Armond Neal on flute, Andrea Baker on violin, Severin Behnen on accordion, Michael Cox on Bass, David Celia on drums and derbuki, and Pete Khooshabeh on riqq and deff. Several of the members also play in Kan Zaman Arabic Orchestra. The pieces are mostly Arabic classics by composers such as Mohammad Abd Al-Wahab, Farid Al-Atrash, Sayid Darwish, and other greats. The pieces are played in a thoughtful way, yet each player's sensibilities are encouraged.

Evan Haros began playing sitar in 2003 while serving as multi-instrumentalist for LA Hindu tech punk band Viva K. Tabla player Brian Chann took his first tabla lessons with the great Ustad Alla Rakha in 1977. Together they have a unique, stripped-down style that adheres to the essential elements of classical Raga and Taal traditions. Haros and Chann are both California-based students of Pandit Shashanka Bakshi of Kolkata.

Daniel Corral is a composer and multi-instrumentalist born and raised in Eagle River, Alaska. His unique voice finds outlet in puppet operas, accordion orchestras, handmade music boxes, electronic collages, site-specific installations, chamber music, and interdisciplinary collaborations. Corral's music has gained great attention in Los Angeles, being commissioned and presented by venues such as REDCAT, The Hammer Museum, MOCA, USC's Thornton School of Music, CSUN's Mike Curb College of Arts, The Pianospheres Series, and The Santa Monica GLOW Festival. He writes, arranges, and performs with numerous music groups, including Timur & The Dime Museum, Free Reed Conspiracy, and Tears of the Moosechaser.

Lana Khalaf is a singer of Palestinian and Syrian origin, and has been performing from an early age. Since 1994 Khalaf has performed both as a chorus singer and soloist with Kan Zaman, a southern California Arabic classical and folkloric music ensemble. She has participated in various recordings, performances and directing opportunities in concerts, festivals and workshops as a backup singer and soloist, and is passionate about singing and world music heritage.
