The Water Engine
THE WATER ENGINE closed April 21, 2007. Please check out our current production: LIFE OF GALILEO !

Strawberry Theatre Workshop follows up their critically acclaimed production of An Enemy of the People with David Mamet's, The Water Engine. The play presents a young inventor who's found a way to run an engine on distilled water. Though he's ridiculed at first, he soon piques the interest of Big Business and is threatened when he refuses to sell his idea. Mamet's simple melodrama is a symbolic portrayal of human innocence defeated by a corrupt and violent society. Or is it simply paranoid fantasy? The audience watches the actors, announcer, and sound effects man present a radio play in the 1930s with unerring authenticity.

The Strawshop production will be energetic, played without an intermission in just over an hour. Authentic Foley sound effects accompany eight actors as they bring more than twenty characters to life.

Directed by MJ Sieber
Featuring Gabriel Baron, Kate Czajkowski, David Goldstein, Erik Hill, George Mount, Marty Mukhalian, Michael Patten, and Dusty Warren

"In the hands of a crummy actor, Lang could come off as an ineffectual dork... But Baron nails it, giving everyman Lang just the right amount of spine."
