Voicebox: tEEth
NEW NOISE is excited to announce Voicebox: tEEth, the latest in our quarterly workshop series for ensemble theater artists!

Voicebox: tEEth will be held June 8-9, and led by Angelle Hebert, co-artistic director of the award-winning Portland, OR- and New Orleans, LA-based dance company.

You may have seen tEEth's breathtaking performance, Home Made, a few years back in the New Orleans Fringe Festival, or caught Angelle Hebert's beautiful, daring solo piece, Surprise, No Surprise last year. If you missed these incredible shows, you can check out the company's work at teethperformance.com.

We hope you'll join us for a challenging, physical weekend exploring the methodology of one the most exciting performing groups working today.

Whole Body Screaming

Drawn from Angelle Hebert's personal creative, choreographic practice, this weekend-long intensive will move through a series of guided improvisational exercises exploring expression and connectivity of the body and voice. We will work to deepen our connection to the creative impulse: accessing the voice through the moving body and vice-versa. Experimenting with extremes in movement and sound, we will investigate muscle tension and release, bound, frenetic, and quiet energy, our individual capacity for movement, and the evolution of movement and voice through repetition, abstraction, and established structures.

Use of video documentation as part of the creative process will be discussed and utilized within the workshop as we build short movement pieces to be performed at the close of the weekend.

Throughout the intensive, we will feel and observe how movement is communicative, how it can take on linguistic and musical interpretations, how it can create structure, and how it can carry emotion, psychology and visceral impact. We will challenge and stretch the definitions of movement, transcending limitations and connecting with core expression. This workshop is geared towards professional artists, but is open to all levels of movement experience.

About Angelle

Angelle Hebert is a choreographer, movement artist, and the Co-Artistic Director of tEEth (www.tEEthperformance.com), an award-winning contemporary dance/performance art company. She is a Louisiana native who recently relocated to New Orleans from Portland, OR. Throughout her 12-year career as a choreographer, she has created and produced over 20 original performance works. In 2006, she co-founded tEEth along with long time collaborator, composer Phillip Kraft. tEEth has been commissioned and/or presented by Joyce SoHo (NYC), On the Boards (Seattle), the New Orleans Fringe Festival, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco), Fusebox Festival (Austin), New Genre Festival (Tulsa), Rose Wagner Theater (Salt Lake City), Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, and White Bird Dance (Portland), among others.

Voted as Best Choreographer by Portland's Willamette Week, Hebert has been described as a "fearless explorer" creating dances that "integrate pedestrian movement (grappling, writhing, twitching) into solos, duets, and unisons that speak, subtly, to group dynamics, intimacy and alienation." (WW) She approaches the body with a singular eye for life's beauty & dark absurdity, offering a poignant & uncompromising view of humanity. Hebert's precise, distinctive phrases push gestural dance to its limits while combining technical virtuosity & raw visceral impact. Her work has toured nationally to New York City, Seattle, San Francisco, Austin, Salt Lake City, & Tulsa and continues to receive national, critical acclaim. Upcoming performances include Atlanta and Brooklyn June 2013.
