GIBFF 2018 Friday 1PM - Standing Your Ground - Short Film Showcase
'63 Boycott
In 1963, 250,000 students boycotted the Chicago Public Schools to protest racial segregation. Unseen 16mm footage of the boycott is combined with insights from the original participants and present-day protesters against school closings. ’63 Boycott connects the forgotten story of one of the largest northern civil rights demonstrations to contemporary issues around race, education, and youth activism.

Take Me Home
A home foreclosure crisis has gripped Detroit Michigan for over a decade. Illegally inflated property taxes have caused more than 100,000 working families to lose their homes. The last time Americans experienced anything near this alarming rate of foreclosures was during the great Depression. While headlines read of the so called rebirth of the Motor City, many Detroit neighborhoods have been devastated. With African-Americans communities hit hardest of all.

Riding with Aunt D. Dot
A young artist takes a bus ride that makes her question reality as several eclectic characters take her to task on where she's going with her life.

As a piece of a multimedia art film project, 'Riding with Aunt D. Dot' combines Director Bree Gant's radical imagination, real-life woes, and her own experience on riding the Detroit city bus to tell the story of a disillusioned Detroit artist struggling to ground herself mentally while fighting back against what may or may not be the figments of her own imagination.

Midnight
