GEOFFREY KEEZER & KENNY WASHINGTON
Geoff Keezer was only 17 when he became the last pianist in Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers (1988-1990), a perfect gig for the talented hard bop musician who fit right in with the tradition of Horace Silver, Bobby Timmons, Cedar Walton, James Williams, and Benny Green. Since Blakey's death, Keezer's professional career has spanned many projects while continuing to work in collaboration with world class musicians from diverse genres. His 1998 release, "Turn Up The Quiet", featured vocalist Diana Krall along with Joshua Redman and Christian McBride. His partnership with world renowned classical artist Barbara Hendricks as musical director and arranger produced "It's Wonderful  A Tribute to George Gershwin" with subsequent touring in Europe and Japan. His two releases in 2003, "Falling Up" and "Sublime: Honoring the Music of Hank Jones", were both collaborative efforts. "Sublime" is an ambitious set of piano duets with Kenny Barron, Chick Corea, Benny Green and Mulgrew Miller. "Falling Up" features several pieces where Geoffrey worked in tandem with the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitarist, Keola Beamer. His 2005 release, "Wildcrafted", captures the fire and raw energy of Geoffrey's trio live in concert at the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis. And in 2006, Geoffrey teamed up with traditional Okinawan singer Yasukatsu Oshima for a groundbreaking album of duets. Geoffrey's 2009 adventure, "Áurea", is a recording of folkloric South American music mixed with Jazz, and was nominated for a GRAMMY award in the "Best Latin Jazz Album" category. In 2010, Geoffrey was nominated for a GRAMMY award for his arrangement of "Don't Explain" for singer Denise Donatelli.

Keezer began working with Kenny Washington when both performed with Joe Locke at the Lincoln Center. Out of this collaboration, a strong bond was forged. The amazing keyboard skills of Keezer are the perfect compliment to Kenny Washington's stratospheric vocals. Recently dubbed "the Superman of the Bay Area jazz scene" by the San Francisco Chronicle, Kenny Washington is a jazz virtuoso who thrills audiences with his soulful interpretations, seemingly limitless range, and rapid-fire scatting. Ravi Coltrane has declared Kenny his favorite male vocalist, and Mark Murphy said in a Jazz Times interview that Kenny was the only contemporary male vocalist carrying on the tradition. Kenny has performed and/or recorded with Louie Bellson, Wycliffe Gordon, Jon Hendricks, Elvis Costello, Joel Harrison, Jason and Delfeayo Marsalis, Joe Locke, George Mraz, Clarence Penn, the Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra, The Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, the Slammin' All Body Band and The Michael O'Neill Quintet to name a few.

This is a special Monday night show to team up two of the best in Jazz. You do not want to miss this evening.
