This is the Place
The process of making This is the Place began with developing a method of long-distance dance devising. For six months, domestic and international contributors shared movement videos, writing, images, original music, and audio recordings on a website called Paste. After a rich and expansive database of source material was produced, in-person rehearsals were used to synthesize this digital content into a live performance. The shared experience of navigating a digital rehearsal space and building relationships with collaborators through the internet deeply influenced this work. This is the Place exhibits themes of memory, replication, and childhood nostalgia interwoven through a pragmatic, athletic, and sometimes violent movement landscape.
