The Black Box Project: Cycle 1
THE BLACK BOX PROJECT is an NYC-based new play reading series and artists salon for emerging Black playwrights. Our mission is simple: to provide black playwrights across the diaspora a space to improve their craft through readings, workshops, and feedback. Our inaugural reading will feature Queen Peaches by Alric Davis and FULTON by Morgan Wardlaw.

Playwrights:

FULTON by Morgan Wardlaw

a contemporary kitchen sink drama inspired by the murder of Saheed Vassell, about the intersections of blackness, mental illness, and gentrification.

QUEEN PEACHES by Alric Davis

a period drama about the relationships within Houston chapter of the Black Panther Party.

MORGAN WARDLAW, writer of FULTON, is an Actress, Playwright, and professional violinist based in New York City. Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Morgan attended Northwest School of the Arts and was a staple in the Charlotte theatre scene, performing with companies such as Children's Theatre of Charlotte, Theatre Charlotte, and CPCC Summer Theatre. She is an alumna of Randolph College, and currently enrolled at the Stella Adler Conservatory.

ALRIC DAVIS, writer of QUEEN PEACHES, is currently pursuing his M.F.A. at the University of Houston with a concentration in Arts Leadership. He holds a B.F.A. from Howard University with a concentration in Musical Theatre and Playwriting. His original play Different, Damaged, Damned garnered positive reviews at the 2016 Capitol Fringe Festival in Washington D.C. after being chosen as a winner of the Houston Young Playwrights Exchange at the Alley Theatre in 2013. He is an adjunct instructor at Stages Repertory Theatres Young Actors Conservatory and Founding Artistic Director of The Bayou Theatre Company in Houston, Texas.
