The BODY: Movement and Media
The BODY: Movement and Media

Program: Body of Your Dreams, CUE JANE, Dance on Budapest with BANDALOOP, .Gif: The Film, Paloma, Stations, Stim

This Shorts Program features a collection of works that verge on the experimental. The human BODY is examined in fragmented detail. It is built up and broken down; it is left out. Thoughtful montage begs questions of comparison between figures: consider differences in ability and age. Popular media shapes our perception of the human body in ways that are critical, dishonest, revelatory, and beautiful. Which body is privileged? Which body is valued?

Total Runtime: 84 mins.

Gif: The Film

California Premiere
An homage to a new visual dialect that has become a symbol of the virtual forms of communication and at the same time - due to its fascination with the fundamentals of the moving image - a memento of the birth of cinema. The continuous flow of disperse images works as a glimpse into the unconscious of the visual consumer in the age of social media, while the use of film creates a dialogue between the digital and the analogue that crafts a new texture of the real.
Directed by: Jeff Zorrilla
Country: Argentina;
Language: Spanish; Genre: Experimental;
Runtime: 15 mins.

Dance on Budapest with BANDALOOP

US Premiere
Based in Oakland, California, BANDALOOP re-imagines dance, activates public spaces, and inspires wonder and imagination in audiences around the world. Although it appears effortless, its a demanding process that requires tremendous commitment, preparation, vision, and athleticism. Shot in collaboration with GoPro, we present a celebration of the human spirit.
Directed by: Daniel Sherer

Genre: Documentary Short;

Stim

World Premiere
Stim is a short documentary film featuring Autistic people telling in their own words what the act of stimming (self stimulatory, repetitive behaviors) means to them. Education programs often attempt to extinguish (limit or erase) stimming because it looks strange to the neurotypical eye and is considered a deficit or symptom of autism. Autistic adults offer an alternative perspective: one that celebrates the many functions and joys of stimming, taking up the call of neurodiversity instead of deficit. Open Captioned.
Directed by: Marrok Sedgwick
