Little Shop of Horrors
Little Shop of Horrors is a delectable sci-fi horror musical with an electrifying 1960s pop/rock score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman.
Seymour Krelborn is a meek and dejected assistant at a floral shop who happens upon a strange plant, which he affectionately names Audrey II after his crush at the shop. Little does he know that this strange and unusual plant will develop a soulful R&B voice, a potty mouth, and an unquenchable thirst for HUMAN BLOOD.
As Audrey II grows bigger and meaner, the carnivorous plant promises limitless fame and fortune to Seymour, as long as he continues providing a fresh supply of blood. Just when its too late, Seymour discovers Audrey IIs extra-terrestrial origins and his true drive for world-domination.
Directed by Billie Wildrick
Our Little Shop of Horrors Stage Director, Billie Wildrick, gives us her visions for the production. In order to reflect our modern understanding that a voice and a soul is not pre-determined by the skin they reside in, our production ofLittle Shop of Horrors will feature custom built puppets (Sesame Street/Avenue Q style) in the leading roles of Audrey, Seymour, Mr. Mushnik and Orin, in addition to the usual puppet progression of the ever growing Audrey II. Im very excited to create a chance for actors to play the roles that speak to their soul and vocal range, regardless of gender, race, age or any other identity factor that might normally cause them to feel disqualified from consideration. Im also excited to explore this show at a time when politics is so deeply involved with the strategic feeding of monsters, the naïve gambling that these monsters can be kept under control, and the laughable, blind denials that feeding monsters does not mean complicity in their actions. #shorelinetheater #littleshopofhorrors #musical #billiewildrick #shoreline
