ABOUT THE SPEAKER AND FESTIVAL
The Black Ink Book Festival is the citys first annual celebration of African-American literature in the Charleston area. The Festival serves as a platform to support local Black writers, creating a space for them to share their work, discuss their craft, and expose readers of all ages to the great variety of African-American authors in the area.

Terry McMillan, one of Americas most beloved and critically acclaimed authors, will be the featured speaker at this year's Black Ink Book Festival on September 8. McMillan became the empowering voice of a generation of women with her New York Times #1 bestsellers Waiting To Exhale and How Stella Got Her Groove Back. She will join 60 black authors and hundreds of readers for the third annual festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 8 at the Main Branch of the Charleston County Public Library, 68 Calhoun St. Saturday's Black Ink Festival is free and open to the public.

McMillan's books have sold millions of copies worldwide. Four have been made into major motion pictures. Known for irreverent, pitch-perfect tales of womens lives, McMillan's seven bestsellers are rich in fearless wisdom, heart-touching characters, and unforgettable stories of friendships, healing, intergenerational bonds, and women saving their own lives.

"We are thrilled that Terry McMillan, one of the most inspiring authors in America today, will join us for our third festival," announced Brittany Mathis, director of the Charleston Friends of the Library, presenter of this years festival. "Having one of the most influential writers is truly a dream come true."

No refunds will be issued after 9:00 PM the night before the event because we commit to and pre-pay for every refreshment ordered by ticket holders.
