Spend those hot summer nights at The Side Yard Farm every second Wednesday of the month this summer. We started movie nights in order to bring community together and spotlight some really talented artisans here in Portland. This August we are welcoming Upright Brewing, MF Tasty and Salt & Straw. On the big screen we will be showing Sixteen Candles! Did I mention you should ride your bike?! It's a bike in movie ya'll. Ticket includes admission, dinner, beer, ice cream and supporting these locally owned businesses.
UPRIGHT BREWING
Upright Brewing specializes in farmhouse inspired beers rooted in France and Belgium but made with a Pacific Northwest twist.The name references the primary instrument of Charles Mingus, the great musician whose compositions defied categorization. At Upright the recipes and processes are decidedly unbound, yielding brews that share Mingus spirit of exercising creativity & craft. The brewery tasting room is located in the basement of the Leftbank Building at 240 North Broadway.
MF TASTY
Chef/owner Eric Gitenstein started MF Tasty as a secret supper club popping up around Phoenix, AZ in 2010. Their schtick was for one night only, for this price we will be offering this menu. Location was only revealed to those that reserved spots, and then poof! On to the next menu/location. Now Eric and his wife Nicole are in Portland serving you with a theme of Southwest Inspired. Portland Made. What does that mean? What is Southwestern food? Are there green chiles on everything? Different regions showcase different products. Living in Arizona for about 20 years has made their love for these flavors grow, and they want to share these with Portland. This is where Southwest Inspired. Portland Made comes into play. Oregon has some of the most amazing local products a chef could ask for, so they want to utilize these ingredients and combine them with a flavor profile we know and miss. However dont be surprised if you see a special or two that strays from their wheelhouse. In his ten years cooking he has worked at restaurants specializing in other cuisines, and if they can make it, well they want to share it."
SALT & STRAW
Since opening, Salt & Straw has gained national media attention for its exotic ice cream flavors. Standout flavors, such as Bone Marrow with Bourbon Smoked Cherries and Arbequina Olive Oil, have served as some of the main reasons Salt and Straw has been included on lists of America's best ice cream. Flavors offered at the ice cream shop vary depending on the seasons and ingredient availability, as all main ingredients are locally sourced. Side Yard Farm is doing a collaborative ice cream with Salt & Straw this August and will be available to try at the movie night!
