The Mascot Theory ALBUM RELEASE SHOW (Madison) w/ FUTURE STUFF
Join Madison folk rock band The Mascot Theory as they celebrate the release of their new full length "Dawn and What Comes After" album with special guests FUTURE STUFF (Althea Grace and Gabe Burdulis) also celebrating the release of THEIR new "For The Time Being" album.
Along with classic TMT songs from previous albums The Mascot Theory will be performing the entire new album joined by some of Madison's best musicians including Shawndell Marks, Jeremy Henning, Jim Smith, Gabe Burdulis, Julia McConahay, and Rob Dz!
About "Dawn and What Comes After"
The seemingly infinite winter chill of early 2018 provided the ideal catalyst to hunker down with a newborn set of lyrics and melodies and begin the process of creating what would become the foundation for Dawn and What Comes After, the fifth studio album from Madison, Wisconsin folk rock band The Mascot Theory. Paradyme Productions in Madison, WI was the de facto "cabin in the woods" as the studio of choice to grow and document these new seedling songs, and owner Jake Johnson became the trusted gardener/studio engineer. Long time The Mascot Theory members Erik Kjelland, Nick Fry, and Paul Metz were joined by decorated singer/songwriter Corey Mathew Hart (of Lost Lakes) to provide the electric guitar and harmonies for the album and future live shows.
With previous albums the band used their live shows to flesh out arrangements for most of their new songs prior to hitting the studio. Dawn and What Comes After represents a slight departure from this method, as the band entered the studio environment with bare song arrangements, allowing freedom to explore new paths and styles without preconceived live performance constraints. Alternate musicians and instrumentation were brought in to expand the sonic landscape of the tunes, including singer/songwriter Kari Arnett as a guest vocalist, Kenny Leiser (Wheelhouse) on fiddle, Brady Bachmann on cello, Shawndell Marks(Gin, Chocolate & Bottle Rockets) on keys and organ, Sam Wilson (Sons of Bill) on pedal steel, Jeremy Henning (The Lower 5th) on trombone and horn arrangements, Al Falaschi (Phat Phunktion) on saxophone, and Jimmy Doherty (Phat Phunktion) on trumpet. Madison hip-hop artist Rob Dz laid down a smooth verse on the song The Monster. Kjelland teamed up with long-time visual collaborator Vince Padilla to create the concept for the album cover.
Lyrically, Dawn and What Comes After paints a broad picture of longing for something just out of reach, both future aspirations yet to be achieved and past accomplishments that have gone unnoticed and under celebrated. There is a sense of moving on with a cautionary flare to proceed at a slightly slower pace, to remember the ups and downs of the past, and to cherish every ghost along the way that shaped the path of the road traveled.
THE MASCOT THEORY
A high-energy dose of toe-tapping Americana folk-country rock drenched in tight harmonies spewing lyrics of love, loss, regret, death, and hope. With groups like Mumford & Sons, The Avett Brothers, and Dawes setting the tone, the sub-genre of acoustic folk rock made its way to mainstream radio and captured an incredible and very loyal fan base. With the release of their Nashville-recorded album Hand Me Down Miracles, the Esperanto EP, and the most recent Trust and Bones album, The Mascot Theory is set to be the next band in that category to make a major impact, as they have quickly moved up the popularity ranks of Madison's music scene with their infectious songwriting and energetic live shows. They balance on an alternative folk influence and pull it together with a rootsy bluegrass blended Americana feel to give something that fits alongside their counterparts, but also has enough freshness to it to give it a unique spin and create their own sound as well, with a sonic backbone of 4-part harmony swells. Along with a 2017 WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) win for Best Male Vocalist (Erik Kjelland) and a nomination for Best Americana/folk artist, The Mascot Theory has won 22 MAMA (Madison Area Music Association) awards including back to back 2016 and 2017 Artist of the Year awards. They have played major festivals throughout the Wisconsin including Summerfest, Freak Fest, and Mile of Music Festival, and have shared the stage with BoDeans, Vance Joy, Frank Turner, The Jayhawks, The Verve Pipe, Chase Rice, Kaleo, The Wild Feathers, Guster, Blitzen Trapper, Cory Chisel, Andy Frasco and the UN, Don McLean and Miles Nielsen and the Rusted Hearts.

FUTURE STUFF
FUTURE STUFF is a young poppy-folk-blues duo based out of the Midwest. Theyve been commonly noted as a mix between Tedeschi Trucks Band, The White Stripes and Shakey Graves. They have been named one of the best up and coming bands in the Chicago-land area. The duo is comprised of Gabe Burdulis and Althea Grace. Their heavy blues influence gives their music and lyrics a sound beyond their years and can best be described as a fun vintage, but folk/pop style that will keep you on the edge of your seat while tearing at your heart strings. FUTURE STUFFs live shows are full of energy and a sound greater than their numbers. They use a unique instrumentation featuring Burdulis on vocals, guitar, kick drum and trumpet looping, and Grace on vocals, upright bass, and guitar. Their performances create a full-band sound with just two people on stage while still maintaining a personal intimacy with their audiences.
