ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP:
In this class, attorney Benjamin Kerr leads you through the basic business essentials for artists. Copyright, business types & structures, contracts, and all the other complicated legal terms you didn't learn in school, you'll learn here. By the end of the class, you'll understand how to create and manage your arts business, so you can support yourself and your artistic practice.
*The final session includes a panel of artists who will discuss the business side of their practice.
*This workshop is open to artists of all disciplines looking to grow the business aspect of their careers.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Ben Kerr has extensive experience advising clients in a wide variety of practice areas including contract drafting, negotiation and review; entertainment law; business formation; intellectual property; real estate; landlord/tenant law; corporations and partnerships; and wills and estates. He has represented individuals; small businesses; and corporate entities in state and federal courts, and arbitrations on a wide variety of commercial and civil litigation matters. He has litigated claims in state and federal courts and in multiple arbitration venues. Mr. Kerr also has represented clients in a variety of industries in breach of contract, construction, insurance coverage, and other commercial disputes.
ABOUT THE VENUE:
The venue for this event is wheelchair accessible and can be accessed by Metro transit and the Light Rail (Mt. Baker stop). The venue has identified as a non-scent-free space with gendered bathrooms. This event is service dog friendly and child friendly, but child care will not be provided. Also, if you do plan to bring your child please keep in mind that certain topics and language may not be appropriate for children.

Artist Trust reserves the right to cancel any program. If cancelled, a full refund will be applied. If a participant needs to cancel for a paid program, the following policy will apply:
A full refund can be issued through Brown Paper Tickets if notified 5 days prior to the program date. Artist Trust cannot provide refunds for missed classes.
Please contact the coordinator if you have any questions regarding specific content of the workshop.
These refund policies are in place because workshops have limited space and this is intended to ensure we are able to offer the space to another attendee if notice is provided far enough in advance.
