Cabaret at the Workshop w/ Nan Gurley and Stan Tucker
The Nashville Jazz Workshop is pleased to present the next installment in its Cabaret at the Workshop series: ITS GOOD TO HAVE YOU NEAR AGAIN - an evening of music featuring singer Nan Gurley and pianist Stan Tucker, for two nights only, Thursday, June 21 and Friday June 22, at 8pm each evening.

Nan Gurley sings an evening of the best of musical theater with Stan Tucker on piano, Roger Spencer on bass, Aaron Smith on drums, and select surprise guests throughout the evening.

Nan Gurley is best known for her extensive work on the local stage in roles such Mama Rose in GYPSY, Amanda Wingfield in THE GLASS MANAGERIE, Mrs. Beaver in THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE, the Witch in INTO THE WOODS, Carlotta in PHANTOM and Dolly Levi in HELLO DOLLY!

She has also performed in THE SEAGULL, CYRANO, THE LITTLE FOXES, A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, CRIMES OF THE HEART and THE STORYBUILDERS. For these roles, she received a Tennie Award by The Tennesseean.

In the mid-90s she traveled with her one-women show, THE DIARY OF OPAL WHITELEY, throughout the Southeast and also performed it at the Spoleto Arts Festival in Charleston, SC.

Nan has been as a soloist for the Nashville Symphony, having performed Mahlers Symphony No. 4 under the baton of Kenneth Schermerhorn. She also was a soloist for a Nashville Symphony pops concert, A TRIBUTE TO ALAN AND MARILYN BERGMAN, conducted by Ron Huff.

Nan is currently producing a new musical called THE LAST DAYS OF BUSTER DRUMWRIGHT which she co-wrote with her husband, Wayne, and friends Jim Weber and Billy Sprague. Nan travels and sings with her friend Bonnie Keen in their two-woman musical entitled WOMEN WHO DARE TO BELIEVE.

Nan will be joined onstage by one of her early career coaches and mentors, New York-based pianist Stanley Tucker, whos conducting/pianist credits include the Broadway productions of AIDA, CATS, and JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. He has served in various capacities in the worldwide productions of Andrew Lloyd Webbers PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, starting as keyboardist for the Broadway production, to being named Music Director/Conductor of the world tour in 2012. For the past 12 years, Stanley has been an adjunct faculty member/conductor in the Vocal Performance Program at New York Universitys Steinhardt School.

Born in Gallatin, Stanley studied piano at the then-titled Blair Academy of Music and continued with his Bachelor of Music studies at Peabody College, and completed his Master of Music degree at Indiana University. Stan was the first Music Director for Tennessee Repertory Theater, and has conducted for Opryland, the Nashville Symphony, Nashville Ballet, and composed music for Tennessee Dance Theater.

Tickets are $25 for adults / $15 high school and college students with ID. They will be available for advance purchase on Monday, June 1 1at 10AM. Tickets may be purchased online here, by phone 24/7 at Brown Paper Tickets (800-838-3006), or during daytime business hours at the NJW office (615-242-5299). A small convenience charge is added to online or 800-number purchases. Ticket sales are final.

Seating is reserved.Seating is a combination of 4-person tables and bar stools. Parties of less than four may be seated at tables with other patrons.

Policies: The Jazz Cave is a BYOB establishment, with no alcohol or food service. You are free to bring alcoholic beverages and snacks. We sell soft drinks and bottled water. The Jazz Cave is a listening room, and we ask patrons to keep conversation to a minimum and silence cell phones.
