New South Family Supper

April 14, 2013 at 6:00 at Ponce City Market in Atlanta, Georgia

The New South Family Supper, hosted by Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison, will bring a cadre of the South's most innovative chefs to Atlanta to celebrate a progressive South, respectful of the past, but focused on a diverse and inclusive future.

Women have long been underrepresented as chefs. In the NEW SOUTH they rule the roost.

New arrivals to this region have long worked their way up the culinary ladder. In the NEW SOUTH, they run their own restaurants.

Cookery in this region has long leveraged tradition. In the NEW SOUTH, chefs also leverage innovation.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Southern Foodways Alliance, based at the University of Mississippi. Through documentary, classroom, and outreach initiatives, SFA sets a common table where black and white, rich and poor -- all who gather-- may consider our history and our future in a spirit of reconciliation.

Impact of the Event: Dollars raised for the SFA support the documentary work of the organization.

Featuring poet Adrienne Su, a daughter of Atlanta and a devotee of Buford Highway, now writing and teaching at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania.

With music from Doria Roberts, the Atlanta singer and activist whose voice mirrors Nina Simone and whose recent travels inspired a Farm to Ear Tour.
