Shibari 301: Intro to Suspension Transitions & Torsion
**This workshop is now sold out** To get on the waiting list, please send an email to jonathan@seattleshibari.com
Suspension transitions with torsion (twist) are dramatic, intense, and beautiful. Learn to move your partner from one position to another in suspension in a safe, supportive environment with Seattle Shibari! In this four hour workshop, we'll learn the practical and aesthetic considerations for moving someone from one position to another while in suspension. Well cover:
Suspension mechanics Troubleshooting body placement Aesthetics Top Line Management Safety Issues
Prerequisite: Top should be comfortable tying a structurally solid 3-rope gote shibari (box tie), be competent in basic suspension line locking & management techniques, and have prior experience successfully carrrying out suspensions. If they do not wish to use a box tie for the course, it's fine to tie a hands-free chest harness, instead. Bottoms should be comfortable being tied in a gote shibari/TK, have prior experience being suspended, and be competent in monitoring themselves for nerve/circulation issues & communicating same to the rope top.
Suspension bondage is an advanced technique, and hazardous. In order to ensure the safety of participants, the instructor will assess student skill level. Want to be ready for this workshop? Practice! A chest harness may be used for students who do not wish to use the gote shibari tie. Due to the detailed & time-intensive nature of this workshop, choosing one person in the duo to tie will be optimal.
This workshop is appropriate for all genders, sexual orientations, and body types.
Please bring: (8-10) 8 meter to 30 ropes, 6mm in diameter. Hemp or Jute is recommended. t 8mm hemp or jute for the main suspension line is also recommended (8mm is stronger/safer as a main suspension line). Its also helpful to have some shorter lengths of rope in your kit. Short on rope? Well have a bit extra on hand to loan out to students.
