FILM: Pete Seeger: The Power of Song
Four-time Emmy Award-winning producer, director, writer, and cinematographer Jim Brown showing his film, Pete Seeger: The Power of Song with a Q&A after the film.

Brown heads his own company that produces music, social and cultural documentaries, concerts, and PBS fundraising specials, and has some of the most popular and critically acclaimed musical documentary programs of the last four decades to his credit. He has produced and directed over 100 television documentaries and concerts. As a member of the Directors Guild of America, he holds records for the popularity of his programs on PBS - The Weavers: Wasn't That a Time! for 25 years, and Peter, Paul and Mary: Carry it On for ten years. Four of his films have been released theatrically (three internationally). His award-winning documentaries and music specials have been televised in over 25 countries.  And he is a tenured professor at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

Roger Ebert in the Chicago Sun-Times gave Pete Seeger: The Power of Song four stars in 2007 and described it as "a vibrant musical film, one of the 10 best documentaries of the year." A.O. Scott in the New York Times  called it "An affectionate, detailed portrait." The film includes interviews with Arlo Guthrie, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Tom Paxton, Mary Travers (of Peter, Paul and Mary), Natalie Maines, and numerous Seeger family members. One of its associate producers was Kitama Jackson, a grandson of Seeger, and it was executive produced by Pete's wife, filmmaker Toshi Seeger when she was 85 years old.

Jim will introduce the film and stay for a conversation that may include details about Pete and his life, what it took to make the film, what it takes to make award-winning documentaries. As a "local," Jim has stories about the Tompkins Corners environs and about how growing up in the Hudson Valley led to his life in film.
