Everyday Sketching and Drawing: Confident Contours and Dynamic Details with Steven Reddy
Gain confidence creating bold, linear drawings of complex scenes. Create richly detailed drawings by turning off the critical censor and embracing every line as part of your signature style.

The following concepts will be emphasized in this one-day workshop:
Composing your subject/location to include depth, contrast and strong geometry.
Seeing the scene as foreground, mid-ground and background to include detail and depth.
Filling the page with relaxed, smoothly flowing lines that result in a highly realistic yet whimsical drawing packed with detail.
Enhancing realism with diluted India ink washes and pen hatching.
Apply watercolor "glazes" using a simplified palette for harmony and cohesion.

Bio
Steven Reddy draws detailed illustrations of urban scenes, cluttered interiors and complex still-lifes in ink and watercolor. A teacher with Seattle Public Schools since 1998, Reddy spent 2010 traveling throughout Southeast Asia, teaching English and recording his experiences in his sketchbook journals. His drawings from China and Mexico appear in Danny Gregory's An Illustrated Journey.

Steven currently teaches Drawing and Illustration at Gage Academy in Seattle, teaches two popular on-line classes with Craftsy.com, is an active member of Urban Sketchers, and is kept busy with private commissions. Reddy has published three large-format illustrated memoirs that showcase drawings spanning 40 years from his obsessive sketchbook diaries. Now Where Was I? An Illustrated Memoir, the sequel, This Is Then, That Was Now, a 282-page, full-color, 8.5" x 11" illustrated memoir, and Perfect World, A Sketchbook Journal.

Steven's latest book is Everyday Sketching and Drawing: Five Steps to a Unique and Personal Sketchbook Habit and will be sold through Eagle Harbor Books on Bainbridge Island.
