Basic Plant Morphology: All-Day Workshop
This is an intro level, daylong field class designed to arm the layperson with some basic tools and knowledge to identify and observe plants. We will focus on morphology in this class, which is the study of the forms and structures of plants. There are many types of flowers, for example, and we will learn some of the vocabulary to describe these differences. This information can be used to better identify plants and understand the subtle differences that may have escaped you before.

In this 5 hour class we will:
- learn botanical terms for flower and leaf parts, and different types
- learn how to spot the morphological differences in flowers and leaves
- learn to tell the difference between monocots and dicots
- dissect flowers and use botanical loups to look closely at their parts
- draw flowers and leaves.
- learn a few major flowering plant families and their characteristics

This is an ideal class for foragers, herbalists, flower enthusiasts, hikers, and general nature lovers. No experience needed.

The class is taught by local herbalist and plant enthusiast Natalie Hammerquist. Natalie often uses group activities, scavenger hunts and hands on activities in her all day workshops, so come ready to play.

Please bring: an unlined notebook (we will be doing some drawing), a pencil, an eraser, a pen and a botanical loup if you have one (we will have some to share). DRESS FOR THE WEATHER.
