We Got a Right to Sing the Blues
Teaneck Community Chorus presents its Spring concert, "We Got a Right to Sing the Blues". The program, which includes many familiar numbers, traces how the blues influenced popular music, from its rural origins to the Great American Songbook writers such as Harold Arlen. In preparation for this concert, the chorus engaged in a workshop led by educator George Brandon to better understand the inception and history of the blues and inform our interpretation of the selections. As a special treat, we will showcase the Ayo Maak Blues Band, led by accomplished jazz and blues musician Ayodele Maakheru. The band will accompany the chorus on certain selections and play other numbers illustrating the many aspects of the blues. It will be a unique experience!
