Chuckanut Radio Hour with Special Guest Ruth Ozeki, A Tale for the Time Being
Join us this month at our new location, the Heiner Theater at Whatcom Community College, for the Chuckanut Radio Hour, with special guest Ruth Ozeki for her new book, A Tale for the Time Being. The Chuckanut Radio Hour is a radio variety show that began in January 2007. Each Chuckanut Radio Hour features a guest author and includes guest musicians, performance poet Kevin Murphy, Cascadia Weekly columnist Alan Rhodes, an episode of "The Bellingham Bean" serial radio comedy, and some groaner jokes by hosts Chuck & Dee Robinson and announcer Rich Donnelly. The Chuckanut Radio Hour's first guest was Erik Larson and has since included Alexander McCall Smith, Elizabeth George, Cheryl Strayed, Sherman Alexie, Tom Robbins and Garrison Keillor, among many others. The Radio Hour airs every Saturday evening at 6pm and Sunday at 9pm on SPARK RADIO, KMRE 102.3FM.

This month's special guest is Ruth Ozeki, with a new beguiling story of our shared humanity and the search for home. In her new novel, A Tale for the Time Being, she writes about a teenage girl in Tokyo who is ready to end it all, but not before documenting the story of her Buddhist great grandmother. Across the Pacific Ocean, this girl's journal, stored in a Hello Kitty lunchbox, washes ashore and into the hands of a novelist.

Full of Ozeki's signature humor and deeply engaged with the relationship between writer and reader, past and present, fact and fiction, quantum physics, history, and myth, A Tale for the Time Being is a brilliantly inventive, beguiling story of our shared humanity and the search for home.

Author of My Year of Meats and All Over Creation, Ruth is an award-winning writer and filmmaker. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Shambhala Sun, and More, among other publications. In June 2010 she was ordained as a Zen Buddhist priest and is affiliated with the Brooklyn Zen Center and the Everyday Zen Foundation. She lives in British Columbia and New York City.

Tickets for the Chuckanut Radio Hour are $5 and are also available at Village Books. Receive a free ticket to the show with purchase of one hard cover copy of the book at Village Books. Doors open at 6:30pm, and you must be seated by 6:45pm as the show begins promptly at 7pm. Co-sponsored by the Whatcom Community College Foundation, 12th Street Shoes, Fairhaven Pizza, and the Fairhaven Village Inn.
