Walt Whitmans Poetry Turns into Music Concert
"In this project Walt Whitman's poetry gets a fresh twist with a unique blend of preeminent American and Slovak musicians. The poetic verse of an Iconic American poet gets a new and vibrant color being translated into the beautiful and melodic Slovak language by one of Slovakia's poet laureates. This concert is taking place on the occasion of recording new album "Walt Whitman Project" in The Samurai Hotel Recording Studio in NYC. The ambition of this project is to promote Slovak music in the USA, draw together the European and American tradition of folk genre and attract multi-generational audience and fans of poetry. The producers of the album have chosen the poetry of Walt Whitman, famous American poet, where the material is drawn from his poetry collections, translated to Slovak language by famous poet laureates. The music is based on current trends in jazz, folk, soul and blues music. The concert repertoire will be a combination of newly recorded music and originals from the previous projects of the band members.

Slovak side is represented by musicians: Hanka G (vocal), Rober Pospis (vocal), Martin Sillay (guitar) and Nikolaj Nikitin (sax)

American side is represented by musicians: John Peters (organ/piano), Stanley Banks (bass) and Taru Alexander (drums)

About musicians:

John Peters (organ) is one of the most respected organ players in US gospel scene, recorded over 300 projects and worked with Alicia Keys, Donnie McClurkin, Karen Clark, Clifton Davis and many others.

Stanley Banks (bass) is a legendary bassist who is 35 years band member of 10 time Grammy award winning artist George Benson and recorded several albums with him. He worked also with Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Freddie Hubbard, Al Jareau, Etta James and countless others.

Taru Alexander (drums) is a son of legendary American post-bob jazz tenor saxophone player Roland Alexander who performed and recorded with Abbey Lincoln, Betty Carter, Roy Hargrove, Gary Bartz, Carlos Garnett, Rodney Kendrick, Branford Marsalis.

Hanka G (vocal), one of the most respected jazz singers from Slovakia living in New York who released three solo albums and has been acknowledged as "The Best of the Next Generation" by Cassandra Wilson. Hanka cooperated with with Anthony Wonsey, Marcus McLaurine, Carlton Holmes, Kris Funn, John Lamkin, Rodney Kendrick, Kenny Davis and many others..More information on www.hankag.comNikolaj Nikitin (sax) is one of the best saxophone players and composers in Slovakia, who released three solo albums and on those recordings cooperated with Miroslav Vitous, Patches Stewart, Klemens Marktl, Cluster Ensemble, etc...Robert Pospis (vocal) and Martin Sillay (guitar) Both musicians are respected not only as active performers but also as producers of reputable Slovak music and founders of the renowned publishing company Real House Music. They have released eight solo albums and more than fifty records as producers and sound engineers.

This concert is supported by the Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in New York, SOZA, Bratislavsky Samospravny Kraj and Music Centre Slovakia. Supported using public funding by Slovak Arts Council.
