Snap on 2&4, Roland Barber: Soulful Heat, Bayou Beat -- Feel The Spirit of New Orleans!
Roland Barber brings a special treat to the NJW stage - this time celebrating New Orleans during the Mardi Gras Season! Though every bit a native Nashvillian, Roland delivers the range of New Orleans music, from swing to second line, dirge to modern-day "Nola-Funk" with authenticy, depth and most of all - SOUL! With a powerful, glorious tone on the trombone and singing voice that rings of honesty and charm - Roland has ambitious plans for this one! First, you'll hear a set of "New Orleans Highlights" - songs with a New Orleans connection that have a special place in his musical life and career, and then a set of primarily original music, inspired by the grooves, soul and swagger of Crescent City. The supporting cast for this show includes Jon Estes on the bass, Bruce Dudley on keys, Marcus Finnie on drums, Giovanni Rodriguez on percussion, and Rahsaan Barber on saxophones!

Roland Barber has performed with an impressively diverse and world class list of musicians, including Aretha Franklin, Victor Wooten, Christian McBride, the Grammy-Award-Winning New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, Take 6, Lauryn Hill, Stefon Harris, Manny Oquendo y Libre, Chaka Khan, Wynton Marsalis and the JLCO, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, and the NBC Saturday Night Live Band. Roland has performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Birdland, the Blue Note, Lincoln Center, the Copacabana, and Madison Square Garden. He has also appeared on television, including MTV's "Making the Band".

Roland's current endeavors include recording, performing and co-leading the Barber Brothers (with twin brother and accomplished saxophonist Rahsaan Barber), and pursuing his newest avenue of musical expression  the Roland Barber Quintet. Also, Roland is quite active as a teacher and educator of musicians from all walks of life. Roland has taught private study of trombone, jazz history, big band, and jazz improvisation in Manhattan School of Music's Pre-College Program for the NYC area's talented youngsters. Roland proudly teaches Nashville's youth as a part of the Nashville Symphony's "One Note, One Neighborhood" program - a partnership between the Nashville Symphony and W. O. Smith Community School of Music. Also, Roland has presented master classes, lessons and lectures to audiences from the very young to high school and collegiate levels. Roland Barber is also an esteemed composer and arranger. He was recently awarded a New Works Jazz Grant from Chamber Music America, which led to the writing and Lincoln Center premier of his suite, "Songs of the Village", performed by his quintet. Roland is expecting to release his debut album as bandleader shortly - be on the lookout!

The show will consist of two sets, beginning at 8pm, and admission is $20 for adults / $10 Students with ID.
