Maryville Talks Books: An Evening with Michael Pollan
***Online ticket sales have ended, but we will have tickets available at the door tonight! Doors open at 6pm for our 7pm event. Thanks!***

Join us for a Maryville Talks Books event with Michael Pollan in celebration of his new book, "Cooked." Michael Pollan will be joined in conversation with Don Marsh, journalist and host of "St. Louis on the Air" on St. Louis Public Radio 90.7 KWMU.

This is a ticketed event. Ticket packages admit one person and include one copy of "Cooked," which Pollan will sign following the event. Additional books are available for purchase from Left Bank Books in advance and at the event.

Michael Pollan is the author of "The Botany of Desire," "The Omnivore's Dilemma," and "In Defense of Food," all New York Times bestsellers. A longtime contributor to The New York Times Magazine, he is also the Knight Professor of Journalism at Berkeley.

In "Cooked: A Natural History of Transformation," Michael Pollan explores the enduring power of the four classical elements--fire, water, air, and earth--to transform the stuff of nature into delicious things to eat and drink. Apprenticing himself to a succession of culinary masters, Pollan learns how to grill with fire, cook with liquid, bake with bread, and ferment everything from cheese to beer. In the course of his journey, he discovers that the cook stands squarely between nature and culture. Both realms are transformed by cooking, and so, in the process, is the cook.

Maryville Talks Books--a series featuring noted authors--is sponsored by Left Bank Books, Maryville University, HEC-TV and St. Louis Public Radio.
