About FAHM:
Foundation for Advancement of Haitian Midwives (FAHM) is a charitable 501(c)(3) and educational non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and aiding Haitian midwifery associations, education programs and midwifery students living in Haiti, where there are high rates of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality.
A woman in Haiti is almost 20 times more likely to die in childbirth than a woman in the US, and 3% of newborns die in their first 28 days.
Midwives who are educated and regulated to international standards can provide 87% of the essential care needed for women and newborns, and are considered a best buy in primary health care in Haiti.
Much of Haiti's already humble midwifery education infrastructure was destroyed in the 2010 earthquake; countless practicing midwives and students perished and the school itself was destroyed and thankfully rebuilt. Join us in our continuing efforts to restore these losses and advance and promote the midwifery profession in Haiti.
Investing in midwifery education with deployment to community-based services is estimated to yield a 16-fold return in terms of lives saved.
Join us on this mission to educate and graduate more Haitian midwives living in Haiti!
