Kristen Graves is a folk/pop singer and songwriter with a voice that commands attention, lyrics that catch your heart, and melodies that stay with the listener long after the evening ends. Kristen's songs have a coziness to them, like a well-worn winter blanket, but don't underestimate her; she can pack a serious emotional punch at a moment's notice. Picture an energetic Sarah McLachlan, or Tracy Chapman with a pop edge, and you've found Kristen Graves. Kristen has been writing and performing her own songs since 2000. As an acoustic singer and songwriter she has toured nationally since 2002. She has written and recorded four full-length albums.
Though Kristen's personality comes through in her songwriting and recordings, you need to hear her live to truly get to know her. Through captivating storytelling, relevant poetry, and genuine compassion, Kristen's passion is contagious making every listener want to hear more.
Glenn Roth is not your typical commuter from Connecticut. Instead of a briefcase, he carries a gig bag. His workspace is the vaulted splendor of Grand Central Terminal or the tunnels and platforms of the New York City subway system. A literal "underground" sensation, Glenn is a licensed performer in the MTA's "Music under New York" program, playing for the most distracted and demanding audience in the world: legions of workers rushing to jobs throughout the Big Apple. And his fingers work magic, creating a soundscape of compelling melodies.
Glenn is a fingerstyle guitarist, his thumb riding the bassline and the melody driving all. His compositions suggest multiple guitars, but it's really just one guy, ten flying fingers, one instrument. All instrumental, Glenn's songs suggest moods and narratives that compel the listener to fill in the details.
Glenn has released three CDs to date. His original compositions have been hailed as "sheer virtuosity" and "delicate, accomplished solo acoustic guitar work." Glenn has shared bills with Monty Montgomery, Don Ross, Antoine Dufour, and Vicky Genfan, among others. He plays regularly throughout the Northeast and tours nationally to bring his music to new fans and locales. A new CD is in the works.
Katherine Quinn was born and bred in Providence, Rhode Island. She moved to Vermont right after graduating from college to pursue a career in music, much to her parents' chagrin. She acquired very useful life skills, such as chicken slaughtering, dump truck driving, and making compost, After braving the long cold Vermont winters for nearly 20 years, Katherine returned to her native state to try to figure out how to put those skills to use.
Known for her unique phrasing, quirky word play, and melodic vocals, Katherine is a performer who endears herself to audiences of all ages. She has shared the stage with Janice Ian, Melissa Ferrick, and Mary Lou Lord, among others. In 2012, she appeared at the Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series in Newport, performing in advance of The Cowboy Junkies. Katherine is a popular draw on the local music scene.
At Sandywoods, Katherine will perform with Gary Deslaurier and bassist Wayne Belanger. Together, they are Little Black Heart.
Gary Deslaurier is a talented songwriter, singer, and guitarist, and a member of the Rhode Island band Bay Street Folk, which recently released its first CD "Get Yours."
Gary and his Bay Street Folk bandmates play "eclectic folk" and original songs, including the well-received "A Letter to God," written by Gary. In addition to performing as part of Bay Spring Folk, Gary has appeared with Katherine Quinn at local venues.
