Talley's Folly
Set on the evening of July 4, 1944, in Lebanon, Missouri, Talley's Folly is considered a romantic comedy. Matt has 97 minutes to convince Sally to marry him. Misfits by the norm of their societies, neither of them have reason to believe this will happen.
But what they do have is hope. Hope that good will come out of a sad past. Hope that there is the possibility of a future happiness. Hope that in the end, what you believe and long for will come true. Hope that we are more than the victims of our pasts and the creations of our families. And so they move forward, pushing and pulling each other all the way to the final conclusion.
You may see yourself in Matt or Sally as they figure out their individual lives and their potential of a life together. Perhaps it is the same hope, after all, that moves us all forward. The hope that others will see more in us than we see in ourselves, and that they will help us reach what might otherwise seem to be unattainable goals.
