Tracey Titus: "Two Loves Have I"

Tracey is joined by David Pearl on Piano and Dmitry Ishenko on Bass.
In tonight's show,"Two Loves Have I", Tracey explores the need to give homage to ones roots, while knowing you must leave them in order to grow and emerge as an artist. For Josephine Baker, it was an aching for two cities, with a racially charged underbelly. I Have Two Loves, New York and Paris. For Tracey, It's been a journey from the, "Show Me State" to the "Empire State" and from beer and BBQ to caviar and champagne! So, Kansas City, here we come! You might take a plane, you might take a train, or you might just sit back in a quintessential New York Jazz club, order a flute and listen to her melodious story telling about two places, grounded not only in her heart but in the epi-centers of Jazz history.
Tracey has just got that thang. She's a touch of Blossom, a slow shot of Billie and a light peppering of Sassys sass. It's no wonder, then, that she comes to us from one of the great incubators of jazz, KC- Mo! Kansas City after all was where Count Basie, Jay McShann and Benny Moton and the Blue Devils helped bring into the lime light, that foot tapping, heart racing musical fusion that would sweep the world, Big Band Jazz. Music was in the ether in Kansas City and Tracey boasts living on the same street as Charlie Parker! As one of the great innovators, Parker left the structure of the big band style and ushered in the improvisational Bebop style that morphed into modern jazz. Tracey's father, Hubert Titus started a doo-wop group called the Titones and wrote the hits, The Symbol of Love and The Movies, both still available on Scepter Records. Rooted in Kansas City and branching out in the Big Apple was the right decision for Tracey. She embodies both small town charm with big city sophistication and has quickly become a mainstay in the Big Apples thriving jazz cabaret scene including, Thalias, Zebs, Kitanos, and Cobi Naritas Jazz Forum. Tracey has also performed at"The Cotton Club" three times. She studies with Jay Clayton, Marilyn Maye, Marianne Solivan and NEA Jazz Master, Dr. Barry Harris.
Tracey is dedicating this show to her late brother Randy Titus, a true artist.

Seating at Pangea is communal. Other guests may be seated at the table. There is a $20 per person food or beverage minimum at the tables. DINNER SEATING BEGINS AT 6:00PM.
Please arrive one half hour prior to the show and allow additional time if you are planning to have a dinner.
