Tom May

Tom May is a Pacific Northwest musical icon, performing across the United States, Canada and beyond for more than 45 years.    He is founder of "Winterfolk", Portland's
annual benefit concert for Sisters of the Road Cafe, which this years celebrates its 30th anniversary at the Alberta Rose Theatre.   From opening and performing with Gordon Lightfoot, Willie Nelson, and Alabama in his younger years, to establishing "River City Folk", a syndicated radio program featuring hundreds of artists, famous and infamous, which recently turned 32, he has truly lived a "life in song".   Currently working on album # 16 , he has a crop of new compositions to share tonight, as well as old favorites like "Celilo Falls", and "Blue Roads, Red Wine".

Doug Smith is wizard on the 6 string acoustic guitar, and one of this areas best known national proponents of finger style guitar.   He shared a Grammy award in 2006 for the
"Songs of Henry Mancini" album he contributed to, as well as taking the honors at the prestigious Winfield, Kansas guitar competition that same year.   As well as being an
in demand performer in the U.S., he has also done workshops on his distinctive guitar technique in China and Japan.
Doug's recordings of his own compositions and those of other artists he admires have been heard in movies, commercials, and soundtracks of all kinds.    With more than a dozen albums to his credit,   he is a sought after clinician at guitar camps an symposiums from California to Montana.

Together
Tom and Doug have been friends since the early 90's in Omaha, Nebraska, when Doug was releasing first early, groundbreaking albums on the American Gramaphone label,
and Tom was just beginning his syndicated radio broadcast.  They have done numerous shows together, and love to have the chance to join forces on some favorite pieces,
from originals, to  Chet Atkins, to Gordon Lightfoot!   They will each do some songs solo at this special concert, but most of the show will consist of exciting duo vocal/guitar arrangements.
They will be also joined by Doug's talented wife, Judy Koch-Smith, on a few of the songs.
