The Girl Stage Driver & Bisbee Screen Test

Join us for this rare screening of the 1914 short The Girl Stage Driver which was filmed in the Tucson area and thought lost, until a copy was found in New Zealand in 2010. This special screening will feature live piano accompaniment by Tucson treasure Jeff Haskell and is supported by The Tucson Jazz Festival, the Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation and Old Tucson. A truly unique experience.

This film is shown in conjunction with the Bisbee Screen Test. In the 1930s, film crews roamed small towns across America looking for the next Lana Turner. In 1939 a film crew visited Bisbee, Arizona and filmed a handful of local girls for a screen test sponsored by local businesses. This short film somehow managed to survive, until its recent discovery in 2017 in the long-vacant Lyric Theatre, where it screened originally. Dr. Jennifer Jenkins from the University of Arizona will share the history and legacy of this film and those like it, and its place in Hollywood history.
