After years of touring with her band Sarah & The Tall Boys, Sarah Potenza was chosen over 50,000 candidates to appear on The Voice. Judge Pharrell Williams reaction to Potenzas on-air audition gives you a pretty good idea of the level of talent of this incredible singer. Williams immediately exclaimed, Youre giving this generation something they've never seen before". Potenza left the show as a top 20 finalist then headed to Nashville, where she quickly integrated into the local music scene, becoming a staple at the world renowned Bluebird Café and the globally broadcast Music City Roots program. She continues to earn raves for her big voice, which seamlessly blends roots, rock and soul.
NPR Music exclusively premiered the music video to Potenzas debut album, Monster. Programmers have been supporting her gritty sound and unstoppable resolve, resulting in Monster moving quickly up the Americana Radio chart. NPR Music calls the album a blistering, riff-propelled personal anthem, while No Depression states, You wont find any gimmicks on MONSTER, just pure unadulterated rock and roll. Sarahs album also received rave reviews from Rollings Stone. In September the magazine named her one of the top 10 artists you need to know, stating Potenza is to the Blues what Adele is to Pop.

"The Rhode Island native may have gotten her start on The Voice, but the roots rock and R&B of Monster proves she has way more depth than any superficial reality-TV show. The title track is an unflinchingly honest and vulnerable look at body shaming and acceptance with Potenza wearing her plus-size like a badass badge of honor. "Up on the Third Floor" recalls her character-building years living in a rough Chicago neighborhood with husband and guitarist Ian Crossman. And the homespun "Granddad" is full of redneck platitudes "always carry your gun" and never buy a car "you can't sleep in," which elicited whoops at a recent Opry performance. In the standout "My Turn," Potenza asks, "When's it gonna be my turn?" The answer, it seems, is right now." J.H.

The album: Monster, her debut full-length album, out August 19

Songwriter says: "The album Monster was originally titled My Turn. I had this idea that the album was going to be about the trials and tribulations of every day American blue-collar struggle. Could the American Dream still be achieved though grit and determination? Could hard work and passion really pay off? Then reality TV came knocking on the door, I opened it, and the idea of Monster came walking through. I wrote new songs and worked to create a more clear and powerful message. A message of hope, a message of rejoicing in our inadequacies. The idea now was to make an album that could help lift people up, inspire them to keep going, to keep perusing their dreams and that they are not alone. Not just shining a light on struggle, but the idea that there is power in being yourself."
