Where: Meyerland Performing and Visual Arts Middle School


What: The Evelyn Rubenstein JCC is presenting a 1-day intensive with D(n)A Arts Collective featuring master classes in modern, contemporary and hip-hop techniques of dance. Students will also enjoy a yoga class at the end the day to cool down and to reinforce meditative practices for mental health. The teaching artists will lead a Q&A session during the lunch hour.

Who: This intensive is appropriate for dancers with intermediate to advanced levels of training from 13 years old to adult.

Schedule:
12-1 Modern Dance (Alicia Graf Mack)
1-2 Contemporary Dance (Alicia Graf Mack)
2-3 Lunch and Q & A
3-4:30 Hip Hop (Daisha Graf)
4:30-5:15 Yoga (Daisha Graf)

Fees: Students will pay $40 to participate in the intensive. Students are encouraged to participate in all of the classes. Bring 8 or more students and receive $5 off each student.

Daisha Graf
Daisha Graf s career has put her center stage as a dancer with some of the biggest hip-hop and R&B artists in the business. She has performed with Beyonce, Diddy, Rihanna, Pitbull, TLC, Jill Scott and Santigold to name a few. Daisha graduated from Hofstra University with a BA in Dance. Soon after graduation, Daisha earned a coveted spot on Rihannas European tour. Additionally, Daisha landed roles on feature films such as, VH1's "The Breaks", Step Up 2, Step Up 3D, and When in Rome. After becoming a respected performer at the top of the commercial dance world, Daisha found she still needed other outlets to both fulfill and express herself as a performing artist. A quadruple threat, Daisha is a highly sought after dancer, singer, actress and yoga instructor. Download her latest EP, "I Am the Daisha" on Soundcloud (IamtheDaisha).

Alicia Graf Mack
Alicia Graf Mack is a former lead dancer of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. She has also been a principal ballerina with Dance Theatre of Harlem and Complexions Contemporary Ballet. Alicia has danced as a guest performer with Alonzo Kings LINES Ballet, Beyonce, John Legend, Andre 3000 and most recently, Alicia Keys on the 2013 Set the World on Fire World Tour. In addition, shes appeared at many galas and festivals including the Youth America Grand Prix and the International Stars of the 21st Century. She has made national television appearances as a featured guest on Live with Kelly and Michael and The Tavis Smiley Show. Mrs. Mack graduated magna cum laude with honors in History from Columbia University and holds a MA in Nonprofit Management from Washington University in St. Louis. In 2007, Smithsonian Magazine named Alicia an American Innovator of the Arts and Sciences. Mrs. Mack is a recipient of the Columbia University Medal of Excellence, an award given each year to one alumnus who has demonstrated excellence in their field of work. In 2008, she had the honor of delivering the keynote address to the graduates of Columbia Universitys School of General Studies. Alicia is a gifted writer. She has contributed to some of the most prestigious national magazines in her industry; Dance Magazine, Pointe Magazine and Dance Spirit.  Recently, she wrote the historic cover story, Beyond Role Models for Pointe Magazines June/July 2014 diversity issue featuring Ashley Murphy, Ebony Williams and Misty Copeland. She has also authored the foreword of American Dance: The Complete Illustrated History by Margaret Fuhrer. Currently, Alicia is on faculty at University of Houston, and is an Artist-in-Residence at Webster University in St. Louis, MO.
