Événement

Kate MacLeod & Jan Luby
Kate MacLeod'svoice is said to sound as pure as water from a mountain stream. While singing from the Wasatch Mountains in Utah, her highly acclaimed songs often precede her as other artists sing them on stages across the country. Her songs compel music publications such as Sing Out! Magazine to claim that
Kate MacLeod "channels the spirit of the great Carter Family classics." She has opened for artists such as Rosanne Cash, Dan Fogelberg andGreg Brown, but performswinning concerts of her own across the country. Her songwriting style
and live performances display an unbreakable link between traditional music and cutting-edge contemporary songwriting. A songwriter and fiddle player, shehas written music based on historic events and personalities, a collection of songs
based on books, and some commissioned for cultural projects. Whether in a song or on her violin, she captures our history, our landscapes, and our lives in the varied music that she creates. This is no more obvious than in current projects she is developing. Kate is now in the process of recording sessions for her original violin pieces, with an accompanying tune book, and a collection of music inspired by the region of Utah.

Sheperforms her music withguitar, violin and harmonica andhas studied many styles of ethnic violin in addition toextensive classical training from where she has developed a unique expression with her fiddle playing. She has been compared to many influential artists of her genre including Joni Mitchell, Nanci Griffith, Richard Thompson and Emmylou Harris.Since her first recording release, hersongs have been covered by other artists from California to theCzech Republic in Folk, Celtic, Bluegrass and roots music genres includingartists such as Mollie O'Brien, Laurie Lewis and Rose Laughlin.Something Left YouLiving, asong from her Blooming recording, was featured on NPR's song showcase"What's in a Song."Kate's songs have been featured on nationally syndicated radio shows including Tom May's River City Folk, the holiday program hosted by Judy Collins, Peace on Earth, and have been sung by others on A Prairie Home Companion. You will find fans of many music genres in an audience gathered to hear Kate MacLeod perform as her songs catch the ears of new artists, traditional singers, bluegrass musicians, celtic musicians and songwriters of many styles.

Jan Luby is known for her engaging, often riveting stage-presence as well as her voice full of passion, range and power.

Jan was a finalist in the Boston Acoustic Underground (Performing Songwriter) Competition in 1995. Her friends talked her into it...And since then has not entered contests until recently, when she was a semi-finalist in the RISA Songwriting Competition (2017). She was voted Female Vocalist of the year 2011 by Motif Magazine, nominated for Singer/Songwriter in 2012, and her song A Roof and Four Walls added to the success of the compilation album Everyone Needs a Home which won best Best Americana album that same year.

Jan's songs are evocative, lyrical and infectious personal stories. Her approach to songwriting ranges from socially relevant to irreverent, heartbreaking to humorous. Listen to songs off her most recent album on the music page. She is back in the studio recording her 3rd and 4th CDs (yes, she walks and chews gum!) One will be a collection of mother/daughter songs, the other a collection of everything else lying around her brain.
