Legendary tap dancer and performance artist Brenda Bufalino presents: THE MOUNTAIN SUITE: ODE to THE SHAWANGUNKS at The Dance Hall in Kittery on Saturday, September 23rd at 7:30 p.m. She will be joined by acclaimed bass player Joe Fonda and guitarist Kenny Wessel. Last performed at The Button Wood in Middletown, Connecticut and touring the Northeast in the fall, The Bufalino/Fonda Collaborations have been performed throughout America and Europe for over 15 years. Their program consists of original compositions, jazz standards and electronic improvisations, as well as her performance piece "Diary of a Racing Pigeon."
Known to local audiences for her collaborative productions with tap dancer Drika Overton, she created the memorable Auntie Groove in Claras Dream A Jazz Nutcracker, a production that toured the Northeast for 7 years. In her storied career spanning decades, Ms. Bufalino has performed in most major concert halls throughout America, Europe, Australia and Japan. She has been awarded several NEA fellowships and received Lifetime Achievement awards from Dance Magazine, The Flobert, The Tapestry, Tap City, and most recently the prestigious Bessie Award received at BAM this year. She has recorded three CDs, a book of poems, Circular Migrations, and her memoir Tapping the Source, now in its third printing.

A pioneer in the renaissance of tap dance, Brenda Bufalino is a recognized master teacher, author, actress, producer, director and performance artist. She has written music/lyrics and text for her many one-woman shows, including Cantata & The Blues, Journal of a Woodpecker, Unaccompanied, and Primordial Memories. Accompanied by piano and bass, these performances have delighted audiences in New York City, and on tour throughout the US, Europe, Australia, Israel, and Japan.
Ms. Bufalino has also appeared as a guest soloist in such prestigious arenas as Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, The Apollo Theater, The Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Smithsonian Institute and the Kennedy Center, and for Tony Waags Tap City, at the Doris Duke and Joyce Theater in NYC. Instrumental in the creation of Tap Festivals world wide, she continues to introduce new audiences to Americas own indigenous art form.
She teaches and is the Artistic Mentor for The American Tap Dance Foundation, in New York City.
