MERGE vol.4 VISUAL/SOUND ART + DANCE
MERGE vol.4 VISUAL/SOUND ART + DANCE is a hybrid showcase of video art screening, and live sound and dance performance. Visual artists, musicians, and dancers meet and present a variety of their artworks and collaborative projects. Directed by a visual artist Satoshi Tsuchiyama, and produced by a choreographer and dancer Arisa Kusumi.

MERGE intends to merge the layers of different artistic mediums together and presents a lively experience. The borders of all formats seem to become vague in this experience, and it inspires for the possibility of new meanings and relationships. MERGE is an evolving environment for variety of artists, creative endeavors and experimental approaches.

In the spring of 2013, Tokyo-based Choreographer Arisa Kusumi had an idea of producing in a dance performance showcase in visiting NYC. She met Satoshi Tsuchiyama, who was originally asked to support the production as a translator. Soon with Tsuchiyamas expertise as a visual artist, they came up with a new idea for the showcase; mixing dance with other time-based art, video and sound/music. In July, MERGE was born and vol.1 was held at Triskelion Arts, and vol.2 at Center for Performance Research in 2014. After a few years of break, MERGE came back and had a show in 3331 Arts Chiyoda, Tokyo Japan in January 2017.

We are thrilled to be back here at CPR with vol.4 and thank you for all the support.
