New Works by Katie Buono, Holly Heidt, and Julie Petrusak
Join Katie Buono, Holly Heidt, Cristina Gustaitis, and Julie Petrusak in a world of sound, image, and motion. A chance to relish the darkness and delight in our simplest parts. Get your static on, your paranormal underworld, and bounce around.

About the pieces:

Time is an interdisciplinary study created and performed by Katie Buono.  It ruminates on the time we're spending together.  Right now.  Featuring archival video footage from the Prelinger Archives and sound samples from Graham Lambkin's Salmon Run.

Vocalise started with Taylor Brook's composition. Inspired by ideas of string, tension, and fluidity, Holly wondered what bodies could do when connected at the waist by a rope. Together, could they create a singular being? How would this creature move? Imagine the moment before you dive off of a cliff into water. Hot orange sand against cool blue sea. The feeling of falling, the tug of gravity.

adat is a piece that explores color, pattern, and body. It was created through play by Holly Heidt, Joan E. Mann, Hartley Parish, Asha Tamirisa, Sylvana Tapia, and Eunmi Yeo.

"Apparitions" is inspired by real-life ghost stories told to Julie Petrusak by family and friends.
Whether these encounters were real or not is unimportant. What matters is that each person felt that their experience happened for a significant reason. Currently a work in progress, "Apparitions" explores the connection between people that  causes them to feel influenced, guided, or inspired by someone, even after they have passed.

Cristina Gustaitis will present a work in progress.

About the artists:
Katie Buono creates music, videos and tinkers with electronic equipment.  She studied Music and Arts Composition and Technology at Oberlin Conservatory.  Her creations have been in a variety of contexts, from music composition for dance to multi-media interactive installations, pop concerts, and experimental noise music.  She received the Helen M. Ward Memorial Award for Excellence in Dance and recognition as an Oberlin College Scholar and Artist Fellow.

Taylor Brook is a musician who has studied orchestration and composition with Luc Brewaeys, Brian Cherney, Richard Carrick, and George Lewis. In addition to training in Western music, Taylor has also studied Hindustani music in Kolkata with Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya, focusing on vocal technique and slide guitar performance.

Holly Heidt is a dancer and choreographer who loves to observe basic physical actions and patterns in the natural and industrial world: clocks ticking, heartbeats, spilled water, waves. She enjoys working with the raw elements of color, shape, line, texture, and good people.

Julie Petrusak began training at the Maryland Youth Ballet and went on to earn her degree from the Ailey/Fordham B.F.A in dance program. She has since performed works by Alvin Ailey, Sarah Skaggs, Ronald K. Brown, Adam Barruch and others. She has woked with Genesis Dance Company, Racoco Productions, and Millennium Dance Company. As a choreographer, Ms. Petrusak strives to use dance to illustrate the stories that reside in the memories and hearts of her audience members.

Asha Tamirisa is an interdisciplinary artist that explores the expressive possibilities of computing through sound, video, and movement. "
