Music of the Whirling Dervishes
For more than 700 years there has been a traditional classical Ottoman Turkish tradition of sacred music to accompany the "Turning" prayer ceremonies of the "Whirling Dervishes." This ancient tradition is today embodied by the Mevlevi Order of Sufis founded by the 13th Century mystical poet Jelaluddin Rumi. This very special musical event will present that rare classical Middle Eastern form of sacred music performed by some of its best proponents worldwide. Special guest Master Musician Timucin Cevikoglu from Turkey will be part of the musical ensemble playing this classical Sufi music, composed to create a sacred atmosphere tuning the hearts of all who listen.
