Tastes of Norway/Norwegian Cultural and Heritage Day starting at 10AM on Saturday, March 18, 2017. The events are hosted by Leif Erikson Lodge 2-001, Sons of Norway, 2245 NW 57th, Seattle, WA 98107. Musical entertainment, special speakers/presentations, and demonstrations of many traditional Norwegian handcrafts, music, song, dance, and food take place during the day. Artists demonstrate cooking and crafts, such as wheat weaving, woodcarving and rosemaling. Rose painting or rosemaling is a traditional craft dating from the 1700s and many items will be featured with this elaborate painting style of Norway. Gorgeous handmade goods by our Norna Ladies including their famous embroidered tea towels! Local genealogy researchers will be available to assist you with your questions about your Norwegian ancestors. Judge local pickled herring for yourself and find out who makes the best according to your tastes! Competing for the 2017 Pickled Herring Taste Off are outstanding local producers. Viking Raiders brings in an excellent array of vintage sweaters and other items.

Crafts for kids hosted by our new youth directors, Evelyn and Kari, featured throughout the day. A great variety of wonderful season related crafts with a Norwegian theme.

Genealogists Are, Eric, and Terry, are featured in our Norna Room on the third floor. They can help you get through road blocks and walls in searching for your roots. Books from local Norwegian communities will be available.

Enjoy traditional Norwegian foods and watch how these foods are made including the delicious desserts of krumkaker, vaffler, and lefse in our Bakeri! Have a tasty lunch of smorbrod (open faced sandwiches), ertesuppe / peasoup, and/or rommegrot / cream porridge, and more in our Auditorium. Learn about the Sons of Norway in our community including our sports and cultural skills medal programs and  scholarship programs.

Our beautiful bunader or Norwegian folk costumes and jewelry, which represent the unique areas of Norway will shown off at the Bunad Parade, with commentary by Jody Grage of the Bunad Nettverk. Anyone wearing a traditional Norwegian folk costume (man, woman or child) is invited to participate in the Bunad Parade.
